The Disrupters highlights some of the most creative innovators of our time who had ADHD symptoms (e.g., Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Andrew Carnegie). The film successfully strikes a balance between hardship and hope by carefully reframing ADHD symptoms as “superpowers.” (For example, Hallowell says, “Impulsivity done right is creativity” and “Distractibility is curiosity.”) and others.īut this is not a doom-and-gloom ADHD documentary. The Disruptors dispels many ADHD misconceptions and explains the brain chemistry of ADHD through easy-to-understand animated segments and interviews with ADHD experts and ADDitude contributors like Russell A. “ADHD is the number one searched term on the Internet,” says Dale Archer, M.D., author of The ADHD Advantage: What You Thought Was a Diagnosis May Be Your Greatest Strength (#CommissionsEarned), but misinformation prevails. Viewers meet Emily, a mother who was “super-offended” when a teacher suggested that her son might have ADHD, and Briana, who recognized ADHD symptoms in her six-year-old son after receiving her own ADHD diagnosis. The Disruptors follows five households affected by ADHD, throwing into plain view the daily realities of parenting neurodivergent children. The scene is raw, heart-wrenching, and relatable to parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) - including Emmy-nominated executive producer Nancy Armstrong, who drew inspiration for the film from raising her children with ADHD. Later, she admits, “I constantly feel like I’m barely holding my life together.” In an early scene in the documentary, The Disruptors, a mother fruitlessly tries to coax her third-grade son out from under his bed to get ready for school. Fruits Basket is a very cult-type series, and if you mention it to people, they either don’t know about it or it’s ruined their life – there’s no in-between. Heather: My entry point was also all the Cheez TV stuff, but the first thing I consciously got into… It was actually a manga – I got super into Fruits Basket, and then from there it was all downhill. I watched a lot of classic, ‘90s-era anime through that. I started off with Cheez TV, and then at one point when I was a kid we had a version of Austar, and I remember staying up late for Adult Swim, which was the anime bracket on Cartoon Network after 11pm. Heather: It’s so good because the characters change outfits in every episode, so you’re like, “Ooh!” They put a lot of thought into the designs. It’s about a magical girl who fights monsters, but it’s also about fashion… Actually, saying that out loud is making me realise, I think I just like a lot of anime about fashion. Dragon Ball Z was obviously gigantic when I was a kid, but I was also into a lot of things like Cardcaptor Sakura. Jono: I think for me, it’s just been pervasive, all throughout my entire life. What was your entry point into the world of anime? Riley and Tooke are both unashamedly massive weebs – and so, naturally, a Zoom call where anime was the sole topic on the docket spun off from a few quick questions into a deep-dive down the (surprisingly convoluted) rabbithole of the art form’s A to Z, exploring lores, separating the fun from the fucked up, and examining how Western audiences en masse became so dedicated with such an innately foreign form of entertainment. Connecting further over their fandom for Evangelion – which was celebrating its 15th anniversary in Japan, meaning advertisements and tie-in products and branded pachinko machines dotted every other street corner – a lifelong bond was formed.Ĭhat with either member of Cry Club for more than a couple minutes and the topic of anime is sure to come up, either deliberately or by virtue of some sly, over-the-shoulder reference. In fact, their mutual love for anime is somewhat to thank for Cry Club’s existence altogether: singer Heather Riley and guitarist Jonathan “Jono” Tooke met on a uni-organised plane ride en route to Japan, where they bonded over the series finale of Cartoon Network’s (phenomenally underrated) Over The Garden Wall. The duo are unapologetically bold in their eccentricity, drawing as much influence from drag shows and batshit crazy anime (the really obscure stuff, not your standard Yu-Gi-Ohs or Pokémons) as they do from bands like LCD Soundsystem and The Cure. Note again, just like the number one, the number twenty-one has three forms. But, for now, here is a list of the numbers zero through to twenty-nine: # We’ll discuss the number thirty in the next section. While English starts to split numbers into two words after twenty, this one-word pattern continues in Spanish up to thirty. Now that we have discussed the number one in detail, next let’s look at the numbers between zero (0) and twenty-nine (29).Īfter the changes that occur with the number one in Spanish, another interesting observation about Spanish numbers is that all numbers from zero to thirty are each only one word. Note the word order here and how we must put unos and unas before the number we want to approximate. This use translates into English as ‘some’ or ‘about’.Įnglish: I’m only going to wait about twenty minutes (20).Įspañol: Solo voy a esperar unos veinte minutos.Įnglish: There are about forty questions on the test (40).Įspañol: Hay unas cuarenta preguntas en el examen. We can do this by combining unos and unas with a larger number. The second situation in which we can use the plural form of one is for making larger numbers approximate quantities. The first is for a small and non-exact number, this situation is best translated into English as ‘a few’ or ‘some’.Įnglish: We spend a few weeks in the mountains every winter.Įspañol: Pasamos unas semanas en las montañas cada invierno.Įnglish: I’m going to have some drinks with friends tonight.Įspañol: Voy a tomar unas copas con amigos esta noche. There are, in fact, two basic scenarios in which we can use this plural form of one. If we don’t need an exact number, we can use unos and unas for approximations. The last thing we need to discuss before moving on is the plural forms of the number one: unos and unas.Īs you saw a moment ago, when we have a large number ending in one, we need to stick with the singular form of one.Įnglish: There are fifty-one examples in the homework (51).Įspañol: Hay cincuenta y unos ejemplos en la tarea. ‘ un libro’, ‘ un artículo’ etc.) And if it is feminine, we don’t need to change forms. Next, here are some examples of the number one behaving like a pronoun:Įnglish: How many countries have you lived in?Īs you can see with this last example, when we want to say ‘one’ and this represents a masculine noun, we need to remember to say ‘ uno’.īut, if we have a noun in our sentence, we need to drop the ‘o’ (e.g. We can only distinguish between ‘one’ and ‘a’ or ‘an’ in Spanish through context. ‘ una idea‘ could translate as ‘one idea’ or ‘an idea’. Note there aren’t different words for ‘one’ and ‘a’ in Spanish, e.g. When we switch between these two options, similar to other Spanish words that describe quantity such as algún vs alguno, we need to decide between three forms.įirstly, here are a few examples of the number one behaving like an adjective:Įnglish: I have one brother and one sister.Įnglish: We only need one idea for the project.Įspañol: Solo necesitamos una idea para el proyecto. When we use Spanish numbers in a sentence, we can either use them like an adjective or a pronoun. So, what makes the Spanish number one so special? In addition, any number ending in one such as twenty-one (21), seventy-one (71), or two thousand four hundred and sixty-one (2,461) also has three forms. One is the most interesting number in Spanish because it has three forms, where most numbers have only one or two. Before we talk about all of the numbers in the Spanish language, we need to stop and talk about the number one (1). In addition, the song’s lyrics were written by Reid, with whom Brooker still collaborates occasionally. Wilson, another Procol alumnus, on drums. Procol Harum dotted the charts with other material – “Homburg” in 1967, “A Salty Dog” in 1969 and “Conquistador,” released as a single in 1972 – but the emotive “Whiter Shade” remained the band’s signature. 57 ranking in Rolling Stone magazine’s 2004 list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.” In 2018, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted the ballad – which has spawned more than 1,000 cover versions - into its Singles category. As such, fraction solutions are commonly expressed in their simplified forms. It is often easier to work with simplified fractions. Refer to the equations below for clarification. When a is a fraction, this essentially involves exchanging the position of the numerator and the denominator. In order to divide fractions, the fraction in the numerator is multiplied by the reciprocal of the fraction in the denominator. The process for dividing fractions is similar to that for multiplying fractions. If possible, the solution should be simplified. Simply, the numerators and denominators of each fraction are multiplied, and the result forms a new numerator and denominator. Unlike adding and subtracting, it is not necessary to compute a common denominator in order to multiply fractions. Multiplying fractions is fairly straightforward. Refer to the addition section as well as the equations below for clarification. A common denominator is required for the operation to occur. EX:įraction subtraction is essentially the same as fraction addition. To complete an addition (or subtraction) problem, multiply the numerators and denominators of each fraction in the problem by whatever value will make the denominators 12, then add the numerators. The first multiple they all share is 12, so this is the least common multiple. The least common multiple is the first shared multiple of these three numbers. In the example above, the denominators were 4, 6, and 2. Using the least common multiple can be more efficient and is more likely to result in a fraction in simplified form. EX:Īn alternative method for finding a common denominator is to determine the least common multiple (LCM) for the denominators, then add or subtract the numerators as one would an integer. Just multiply the numerators and denominators of each fraction in the problem by the product of the denominators of all the other fractions (not including its own respective denominator) in the problem. This process can be used for any number of fractions. However, in most cases, the solutions to these equations will not appear in simplified form (the provided calculator computes the simplification automatically). This is arguably the simplest way to ensure that the fractions have a common denominator. The numerators also need to be multiplied by the appropriate factors to preserve the value of the fraction as a whole. Multiplying all of the denominators ensures that the new denominator is certain to be a multiple of each individual denominator. One method for finding a common denominator involves multiplying the numerators and denominators of all of the fractions involved by the product of the denominators of each fraction. Unlike adding and subtracting integers such as 2 and 8, fractions require a common denominator to undergo these operations. Fractions can undergo many different operations, some of which are mentioned below. Note that the denominator of a fraction cannot be 0, as it would make the fraction undefined. If a person were to eat 3 slices, the remaining fraction of the pie would therefore be 5Īs shown in the image to the right. 1 of those 8 slices would constitute the numerator of a fraction, while the total of 8 slices that comprises the whole pie would be the denominator. A more illustrative example could involve a pie with 8 slices. , the numerator is 3, and the denominator is 8. The numerator represents the number of equal parts of a whole, while the denominator is the total number of parts that make up said whole. It consists of a numerator and a denominator. In mathematics, a fraction is a number that represents a part of a whole. Use this calculator if the numerators or denominators are very big integers. Fields above the solid black line represent the numerator, while fields below represent the denominator. Wonder if they ever considered firing the animators.Īs a side mention, they should do something about Rock Lee - even though I've slightly gotten used to his horrible looks, I still feel a burn in the back of my eye every time I see him. While the amount of errors decreased as the episodes passed by, at least every second episode before the 100s had one or more moments of slipshod animation. I still have many very bad memories from having to watch lots of errors in the animation, and I'm not sure if I'll ever get rid of those memories. However, a lot of time it's slipshod galore with the animation. At its best, it's slightly above average. It barely manages to get the description “average” to me. Now, it did have some good comical moments, but those were far and wide between.Īnother thing I feel like releasing my rage on is the animation. It's so dreadfully stupid at times that I had to close my eyes, take a deep breath and wait until it got serious again. And guess what+ Naruto is silly in an immature way. Silly is usually good, but not when it's immature silly. Several shows have actually made decent and at the same time long fillers (especially Bleach, with its 40-episode long Bount arc), but Naruto failed horribly here.Īlso, I feel that Naruto is very silly at times. I mean, just because they are fillers doesn't mean that they have to make them bad. Sure, there was the occasional diamond among the charcoal, but that doesn't excuse the high amount of bad fillers. Which brings up another thing.įillers! Agh, I normally don't mind fillers, but Naruto had some really, really stupid ones. The only really enjoyable fight was the one between Sasuke and Naruto right before the fillers began. I mean, it's cool to watch fights, but there are just way too many fights, and they drag most of them out to unnecessary lengths. The story goes like fight, fight, background story, fight, fight, even more fight, half an episode's worth of resting or journeying, fight, fight, and so on. Some fights take several episodes when they could've been done them just as good in one or two. Sure, a lot of the characters has some nice background stories, won't complain about that, but they manage to drag out everything so much. The story isn't nearly as good as the concept would indicate. Along the way, he interacts with and makes friends with many fellow ninja, fighting his way towards his dream of becoming Hokage (the leader of his village). The story follows Naruto, one of these ninjas, as he grow as a ninja, from being a stupid little prank-playing brat to becoming a fine ninja. As expected of this kind of world, there's evil people, having different goals and reasons behind their evil. Of course, since they are ninjas, they fight with weapons like shuriken and kunai as well as hand-to-hand combat. Chakra is used to perform powerful attacks which (usually) belongs to either of the five traditional elements of earth, fire, water, air and lightning. they have this power flowing inside of them called chakra. The ninjas fight by using various skills, and It's an alternate world in which ninjas live. The concept of this show isn't that hard to follow. Don't get me wrong, the show is enjoyable, but it's definitely not among the best shows out there. This wasn't the best show ever, as I had thought it would be. Everyone goes on and on and on about how great it is and my expectations for this show was equally high. To be honest, Naruto is the most overhyped show in existence. |
